Silk slip dresses are like a fashion ‘cheat sheet’ for boosting the versatility of your wardrobe. Just sprinkle a couple in
your closet and you’ll grow your outfit options tenfold!
Timeless in its appeal, with the ability to be easily dressed up and down, the slip dress is a true capsule piece as versatility
is everything.
In terms of how to style a slip dress really, there are no wrongs, nothing it can’t do, nothing you shouldn’t try.
And the best part?
You can use them anywhere, at any time, in both warm and cold weather.
So economical. So functional.
When this look was first introduced back in the Nineties by Calvin Klein and Narciso Rodriguez it was seen as an underwear-as-outerwear
trend, risque, meant for evening wear and certainly not as casual daywear.
Not any more.
These dresses can work for any occasion, be it the office, a party, a casual lunch with friends, a wedding (guest, bride’s maid, even
the bride!), or your holiday.
It’s how you style these gems that makes them so versatile.
If you’re after a minimalist summer look then wearing it on it’s own is perfect. Or you could try a simple belt at your
waist.
Then on cooler days try pairing it with a blazer, coat, trench or denim jacket, layer with a knit or wear a knit over your
shoulders or tied at your waist.
You could also try layering with a t-shirt underneath or an unbuttoned blouse over the top.
Then you’d simply dress it up or down, for warmer or cooler days by choosing the shoes that suit your occasion, whether they’re
heels, strappy flats, flatform or platform sandals, boots, sneakers or even Doc Martens!
Personally, I own three slip dresses. Probably enough for now!
My favourite is my black maxi slip dress by Marle (sold out now, but I've included a similar one below) which is extra versatile when it
comes to styling as it goes with everything else in my wardrobe.
But if you’d prefer something with a bit more colour or playful design there are plenty of options available.
And as long as the style remains one you enjoy, then it’s a true wardrobe staple because the slip dress isn’t going anywhere!
